SHOULD FOOD COST MORE? THE ONION IS ASKING THE WRONG QUESTION

The Onion’s Should Food Cost More? is satire, not a serious policy proposal. The fictional panel takes the rising cost of groceries and pushes it into absurd territory — including one particularly ridiculous suggestion: maybe people should simply get less food.

Now that’s funny — because groceries are already doing a pretty good job of making people feel like they got less.
The joke works because the frustration underneath it is real: people are watching what used to be a normal grocery run turn into a budgeting exercise.
And no, the answer probably isn’t “give people less food.” 😂
