YE IN HOUSTON: 80,210 PEOPLE AND A LOT TO TALK ABOUT
Houston showed up. Ye’s Halloween concert at Reliant Stadium reportedly drew 80,210 people. The Houston Chronicle reports that the venue described the turnout as a U.S. stadium rap attendance record. The concert took place Saturday, October 31, with Ye performing for nearly three hours. citeturn516206news15
The show was built around spectacle: a spherical stage, Earth-and-moon visuals, lasers, pyrotechnics and a career-spanning set. Playboi Carti joined Ye for several songs, and North West appeared during the performance. citeturn516206news15
But the crowd is the story, too. Ye arrived in Houston carrying years of controversy, and Reliant Stadium had warned that hate symbols and outward expressions of hate would not be tolerated. Holocaust Museum Houston also offered free admission over the weekend as an educational response to the attention surrounding the concert. citeturn516206news17
Still, the stadium filled.
REAL B MOMENT
That’s the uncomfortable part worth sitting with. You can separate the art from the artist, refuse to separate them, or land somewhere in the middle. Whatever your position, Houston’s turnout was enormous — and that is part of the cultural story.
