What’s Tea | Technology & Work
Imagine showing up to work and finding out your replacement doesn’t need breaks, doesn’t call in sick, and doesn’t collect a paycheck.
Chinese technology company Xiaomi has showcased humanoid robots working an eight-hour production task inside its electric vehicle factory, sorting center-console side covers.
It’s an impressive step, but the company hasn’t released key details like the number of parts sorted, error rates, or how often people had to step in. So no, this doesn’t mean robots are ready to replace an entire workforce.
But the technology is advancing, and companies are exploring what these machines can do.
Here’s my question: While businesses invest in machines that can do the work, who’s investing in the people whose jobs may change or disappear?
Automation might be the future, but workers still have bills to pay.
REAL B QUESTION
Are these robots the future of progress, or are we watching the beginning of a major employment shift? Would you trust a robot with your job?
